Taking inspiration from traditional tartan textiles, Synthesis Sweater uses simple finishing work to create a plaid effect. The smooth used for the contrasting rib, horizontal stripes, and embroidered vertical lines accentuates the fuzzy halo of the main color yarn, .
Knit from the top down while raglan increases are made to shape the body and sleeves. The plaid pattern is worked throughout the entire body of the cardigan to create the horizontal lines of MC and CC. Once the increases are finished, sleeves are placed on hold while the body is finished. Sleeves are then placed back onto needles and worked in the round using the Magic Loop technique. Worked in CC, the cuffs consist of two small welts worked in the round followed by 2x2 rib. The collar is picked up and worked similarly to the cuffs.
After the cardigan is blocked, vertical embroidered lines in CC are added to complete the plaid look. Optional I-cord ties can be added to the inside of the waist as a closure for the cardigan. The cardigan can also be worn open or closed with a shawl pin.
